Category Changes Feedback
In the last three months we’ve been working on a review of categories on Folksy. We’ve read your feedback, reviewed the site analytics and tested our assumptions and ideas.
We want your feedback on the proposed categories before we implement them.
Please review the blog post about the Category review:
http://blog.folksy.com/2012/09/12/better-categories
and take a look at the proposed changes here:
https://docs.google.com/a/folksy.co.uk/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArsXEqR27S_ndExfRVFGbmpXT01KNXQ2cDdKZ0l1Ync
The category changes are in yellow and we have included information on how the changes will affect different items.
If you have any feedback please leave it in a comment here by 21st September. Only feedback provided through Suggested Features will be considered in the review.
Thank you

Hi re 'brooches' - I can see that the distinction between 'badges', ' brooches' and 'corsages' can be difficult to establish. However, to me 'brooches' are items of jewellery and not 'accessories'. When searching sites, I look for brooches in jewellery and I suspect that is where other users would expect to find them.

A couple of suggestions for sub categories for jewellery that I think would be a good idea are copper and enamel. Both are really popular at the mo.
Thanks! -

Excited about a new category for Jewellery, however can you add an
'other' section for items that don't quite fit any where else- eg Jewellery sets, body piercing to name two. Theres always going to be something that doesn't quite fit and this will help them be found in a suitable place. Secondly- perhaps bracelets and bangles may be a better fit than the suggested 'bracelets and anklets' .Anklets currently only has 44 listings (vs 777 for jewellery sets) so long term- is there enough of these items to justify making it a header over another grouping? -

Generally the categories review look very good but as a maker of baby items I am a little worried the category is going from being very prominent to being hidden away. Possibly it should stay on the front but renamed? from my experience of searching for these items on many sites I never expect them to be under home and garden as I am not looking for something for the home or garden but for a baby.

Hi James,
Thanks for getting back to me. I completely understand what you're saying, I suppose it's because I'm not coming at it from an 'artist' angle. The way I see it is that I make prints which act as homewares in the same way as a vase does - they are a home accessory with a lot of them targeted at specific rooms. While I obviously don't think they should go in the homewares section I think that considering them as an original piece of art such as a painting, drawing or sculpture is also wrong. It is a case of wording, I think simply a section for prints is necessary as I think people do set out to buy a print for their wall, rather than a piece of 'digital art'.

Love the proposed ideas for jewellery, much more logical for searching. My only question is regards items that fall into more than one category, for example I combine wirework with chainmaille in some of my pieces. Will I have to choose a single subcategory or will, in the future, there be the ability to list in all subcategories that apply to any single item?
