Paypal and receiving payments

Do I need a PayPal account to sell on Folksy?

Yes, you must have a PayPal account so that buyers can pay you, and so that you can pay your selling fees.

What kind of account do I need?

You should have a Premier or Business account on PayPal if you’re selling on Folksy. This enables you to receive payment. PayPal are now phasing out the old Premier account and so if you have an existing Personal account or if you are setting up a new account, please choose or upgrade to 'Business'.

Types of PayPal account

How do I set up a PayPal account?

Please make sure that you follow all the steps in the Folksy guide to setting up your PayPal account. It’s very important to do this correctly, otherwise buyers can’t pay for their order from you or they may be charged an incorrect postage amount.

One of the options PayPal gives you is to set a shipping fee or accept a shipping fee from the host site. You should select the latter and not override the shipping fees / postage costs on Folksy. You can see how to do this in the Folksy guide to setting up your PayPal account.

Where do I add my Paypal address?

In order to receive payments, you must add your PayPal email address to the PayPal address field in Dashboard > Shop Settings > Shop Settings - please make sure this is correct!

(To access ‘Dashboard’, please log into Folksy and select 'Your Shop' > 'Dashboard' from the menu at the top of the page)

How do I receive payments?

When a buyer pays for their order on Folksy, the payments goes directly from them into your PayPal account. If you log into PayPal and view your transactions, you should see any payments from your Folksy customers.

What if my buyer does not pay?

Money stays in your PayPal account unless you spend it or withdraw funds to your bank account.
