Do I need to use Paypal to sell on Folksy?

Yes, you do. The simplest means to manage multiple buyers and sellers in an online environment is, we believe, through Paypal. We are aware of some of the criticisms of Paypal and we review other options for facilitating payment regularly.

You will usually need a 'Premier' or the standard 'Business' Paypal account in order to accept payments. According to Paypal, all new 'Personal accounts' are automatically set to 'Premier', but if you have an old Personal account, you may need to upgrade to a Premier or Standard Business account. The Standard Business account is free. You do not need the £20 per month Pro account!

See the Folksy guide to setting up your Paypal account (this includes preferences for the correct postage settings).

Accepting other forms of payment

While you must have a Paypal account to sell on Folksy and this is a required payment method, you can also accept card payments through Stripe (read how to set that up here). You may also accept other forms of payment (for example cash or cheque) at your discretion.

If a buyer has ordered from you and you have been paid outside of Folksy please contact us with the order details and we can mark the order as paid.
