Improved product search
The ability to search within product categories and to introduce sub cats for each main product category. At present cannot find anything unless the seller has happened to use the keywords that I type into the search bar. For example I want to find soft toy crocodiles - at present I go through Dolls & Bears but once I'm there I cannot add crocodiles into a search box without it searching the entire site.
We’ve improved search: http://blog.folksy.com/2014/03/28/finding-and-sharing
This will be an ongoing process, but the search results are now paginated, various improvements have been made to the search algorithm to return more relevant results, and you can refine search by section/category/sub-category and by price.

I agree the whole 'searching' issue is so annoying, us shop owners keep at promoting all day long and it's really frustrating Folksy isn't sorting this issue out, to give us that helping hand.
this has been going on ages! -

The poor search facility on Folksy is so frustrating - please Folksy make it a top priority to address.
All the promotion of Folksy that we do is wasted if visitors to the site find a poor search experience when they visit. And chances are, once we lose them, we lose them forever. -

I think it would be a really, really good idea if you would add in the 'exclude' minus '-' option as is found on many website searches (Google, Amazon, dare I say it "Etsy").
I use it all the time and hate it on website when it doesn't work.
Here it works as a +, i.e the '-' is ignored which is even worse. -

So frustrating...as a seller as well as a buyer who really wants to support fellow sellers I find trying to search specifically for items is almost impossible - and almost puts me off buying from Folksy!
One of our big sellers is our various dog prints and we know our SEOs work very well, but to try and find any of our work while browsing under dogs on Folksy we are rendered almost invisible.
We self promote Folksy to anyone who looks remotely interested but to have them put off at the first hurdle is heart breaking - we are loosing buyers - online shopping is meant to be easy.

as a buyer rather than a seller, I used your site for the first time. the search is so basic it renders it useless, i do not think i will be using this site again - back to etsy i think. which is a shame because i want to buy from the UK. wanted to find christmas stockings that had cartoons on or were a bit geeky. not a chance unless i want to search through 1000s of christmas stocking pictures - which i dont. the fact that it doesnt understand strings of more than 1 word is insane.

Please please please do this as it is impossible to find the specific items you are trying to find. I just want to find a shawl pin for my mum without scrawling through loads shawls (which I have already + do not want/need)
I eventually gave up and will probably go on another site now.
I would love to support Folksy and handmade sellers I just dont have the time to go through thousands of options to get what I want. This makes gift buying extremely hard!p.s I have noticed this feature was suggested years ago! I would rate this as a matter of urgency. Please before you lose all custom on folksy!

Thanks for this suggestion.
Yes, search is basic at the moment and we will be making improvements in the coming weeks and months. ---------------------------------------------- I realised after I voted that this is a 1 1/2 years (or there abouts) old! Search really is very poor I just tried searching for "Rose bath" and had to trawl through pages of all categories that had items with "rose" in there, and all because I couldn't search within one category :-( -

Im trying to find tibetan spindles or drop spindles and its ridiculously hard because there aren't enough sub cats. I sell on Etsy and would like to sell here but the search system puts me off. I have looked at shops sellers on etsy who also sell on folksy and their etsy sales are so much higher , I think this is down to how easy it is to find specific items on Etsy. Please look into improving this area as a matter of urgency.

Yes please! I'm trying to find some necklaces by material and style (e.g. amethyst or circle), but all of my searches find hundreds of things that aren't necklaces, which means I just give up.

I listed "Men's Lord of the Manor cushion". It doesn't even comes up when I search Men's cushion. How comes? How people are supposed to find items? I searched for "Men" ans totally unrelated items came up. Why?

I think the search function needs to be improved a lot. I am a new seller and make belly and waist chains. If I type belly chains into the search bar, it comes back with a reply that no items are found even though my store sells 4 of these products. Similarly if I type ankle bracelets into the search bar, my items do not show.
It is annoying that if your are expected to pay for items to be listed, at the very least the products should show up when they are searched for.
Has anyone else tried to search for the products they sell?

I have used Folksy's "search" to find specific items I have recently listed - for example "mad cats" - I got a short list of items on a single page, none of which were mine. Another example is a search for "glass owls" - yes, lots of owls on lots of pages, so I waded through all the pages, hardly any glass ones, and none of mine.
Have I missed some kind of tagging system when listing? Should I be listing differently? Please help. Thank you -

The ability to search someone's shop for an item is a must, I had someone wanting to by an Alice in Wonderland item from me, she either had to trawl through all of my items to find it, or search Folksy and trawl through the results. It would have been so much easier for her just to search my shop for 'Alice' - please can this search option be given priority? Thanks so much ♥

I searched for handmade mugs and the first page was full of knitted mug cosies ! I agree a complete turn off. better relevant search is needed.

I completely agree with this comment, it's impossible to find anything within categories!

I agree, there is a need for refining searches within each category. I don't have time to search 30 pages of results when lots are not what I want. I need to be able to narrow the searches PLEASE. You will be doing the sellers a massive favour and hopefully increase their sales

When trying to purchase in a place like 'jewelery" I still am getting hundreds of results even after I use the filters that you have in place. There needs to be better filtering -- the items I see are not at all like the items I am seeking to buy.
